Cat Dean is a passionate, traditional artist based in the north eastern suburbs of Adelaide, South Australia. Originally studying a Bachelor of Media Arts, majoring in film she realised her passion for visual arts during the stage of studying experimental film and choosing her electives in the visual arts school. Drawing and painting was always a passion she wanted to pursue. She was been working professionally as a freelance illustrator and artist since 2015.
Dean is particularly enthusiastic about continuously perfecting her realistic, hand drawn, original works combining elements such as nature, florals, portraiture, hands, anatomy and machinery into surrealistic pieces. As well as this style, Dean also works on a variety of other styles such as abstract paintings and caricature/cartoon water colour illustrations.
Since 2015 she has illustrated a children's book 'My Mummy Made Me' by Jodie Grieve, been commissioned to work for adidas Australia during the Adelaide Fashion Festival as a live painter, completed many commissioned portraits and opened an online store to sell prints of her original drawings. She intends to continue improving and developing her skills in realistic painting as well as all other elements of her work, and work on more large and important projects.
As well as creating new and original prints for sale, Cat Dean also regularly takes on commission portraits of pets and loved ones.
